And With the 8th Pick...

The New York Knicks select Jordan Hill from Arizona. Now I need you to understand that I am not mad at the Knicks for this selection nor am I unhappy with Jordan Hill. Hill will be great for the D'Antoni system since he's athletic and can definitely run the floor. He provides the defense presence in the paint that we needed after being last in the league in shot-blocking. And with it looking like David Lee will be gone one way or another (less and less hopeful with this pick along with trading for Darko Milicic), Jordan Hill will get his playing time and fit in in no time.
but..
there's something more to this draft. It's about who we didn't draft because we didn't get the chance. The Minnesota Timberwolves traded some expiring contracts to the Washington Wizards for the 5th pick, the pick they used to select Ricky Rubio.
Yep, him. Starting point guard for the Spanish National Team that went on to lose to the United States in the FIBA Championships. The same Ricky Rubio who played that whole tournament with a broken finger. The same Ricky Rubio that has been playing professional basketball in the second best league in the world since the age of fifteen. But wait! There's moooooore! Already owning the 6th pick by means of the draft lottery, the T'Wolves selected Jonny Flynn (of Syracuse University), another point guard. At this point, I said WTF?! Two point guards? With back-to-back selections (with Stephen Curry going 7th to the GSW). FML!So what does Minnesota intend to do with two point guards of starting caliber? According to their GM David Kahn... he plans to play them together. ...I'm calling shenanigans! There's no way that happens. Moments after Rubio was drafted by Minnesota, Rubio's father said that there was a possibility Ricky may return to Spain for anywhere from 1-3 years. Sounds like a threat in order to be traded? Sure does. And do you know where Rubio would LOVE to play? That's right, NEW YORK. Mike D'Antoni runs a 'European' style offense similar to one Rubio has been playing in throughout his career. And wouldn't New York supply the perfect market for Rubio, the worldwide stage? YES!
Now here's the predicament, who's court is the ball in? Will teams take a chance on trying to trade for Rubio who may hold out and stay in Spain for another two to three years as his European contract expires (in which he owes $6.6 million if he decides to buy himself out of it). Will Kahn essentially take the loss of having Rubio stay in Europe for another three years and then have him return (with his stock rising/falling) but having practically wasted this years 5th pick? We'll have to wait and see. But until then...
One can only hope.

I'm Going Back, Back...
..in reverse chronological order.
I'm ashamed to admit I never heard Tanya Morgan's original LP, Moonlighting (which can be purchased from Interdependent Media for $6.99 shipped!!) before listening to Brooklynati, an album which I absolutely loved. I was scrolling through the Interdependent Media store website when I saw Moonlighting for $6.99 and figured 'why not'? Got it yesterday, just started playing it right now.

Pick Up The Jack, Holla.
I saw this on TV a couple of weeks ago really late at night. It's a damn shame. Shout out to Von Pea for finding it on YouTube.
